Job fair Chance once again attracts record number of exhibitors

The chance emphasises its importance as Hessen's largest trade fair for careers and jobs.

After setting a record for the number of exhibitors last year, the trade fair was able to build on this success in 2024. More than 6,000 visitors were able to obtain information from around 250 exhibitors on the topics of career orientation, training, studies, further education and skilled workers. Despite the rail strike, the trade fair organisers are satisfied with the number of visitors.

People thronged through the seven exhibition halls at the Giessen exhibition centre. Now in its 16th year, the Chance job fair is an important platform for finding out about your personal future and showcases a wide range of apprenticeships and job prospects.

During the opening, State Secretary Dr Manuel Lösel emphasised the importance of taking advantage of this opportunity. Rainer Schwarz, President of the Giessen-Friedberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce, also sees the potential of the job fair: ‘The Chance is an event like no other in the region. Training and studying are not mutually exclusive. And above all, “dual training is and remains a model of success,” says Schwarz.

The event once again offered the opportunity to make direct contact with bosses and HR managers in a relaxed atmosphere and to discover job prospects in the region. The companies, associations and institutions represented used a wide range of offers to attract attention. The large truck of the metal and electrical industry was hard to miss. It provided up-to-date and experience-oriented information about training opportunities and job profiles in the metal and electrical industry. The truck has many experimental stations for curious visitors: exhibits such as the CNC milling machine are ideal for presenting activities and training content and for talking to the students. The Cobot, a collaborative robot, provides an insight into modern industry 4.0. Visitors can experience at first hand how humans and robots can work as a team.

A wide-ranging programme of talks supplemented the advice available at the exhibition stands, and there were also various stand activities and demonstrations, such as the AI Sketch Bot from the company ORDAT. The company specialises in ERP solutions in the software sector and is attending the exhibition for the first time in 2024. But on the Saturday of the exhibition, the company's representatives were already certain: ‘We'd love to come back. The exhibition has been a great success, we've had some good discussions.’

Paulina Waldeck from Hochwald Foods was also pleased to see many visitors who had already brought their CVs and were interested in an apprenticeship.

Many exhibitors noted the relevance of the fair as an information platform and an opportunity for personal exchange. Frank Schmidt from Regionalmanagement Mittelhessen also confirmed this and emphasised the opportunity for networking among those responsible for training. He also welcomed the continuity of the fair. ‘The 16th edition of the Chance fair has once again shown an increase in quality. We have had many good discussions. I think it's great that the region is being strengthened by what is on offer.’

On Friday, the careers roadshow organised by the Federal Employment Agency gave prospective apprentices a chance to get an overview of suitable career paths. The popular application coaching, with its comprehensive package of styling, application photos and a portfolio check, took place on Saturday. Here, in just a few steps, application documents could be brought up to date.

On the action area in Hall 7, the sniffer dogs of the customs authorities showed their skills. And the German Red Cross (DRK) also used the area for a vivid operational training. The IKEA competition, in which visitors had to build a table in a duel, also provided entertainment. The winner was then allowed to take the table home.

Lots of impressions, interesting stand activities, large and small companies and an interested audience – these are lasting impressions of the 2024 opportunity.

The date for the next Chance has already been set: from 31 January to 1 February 2025, companies from industry, trade and commerce, as well as institutions, chambers and associations, will once again be on hand to provide information about the opportunities of tomorrow.
